Library

The Library of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music is a structure at the service of the Institute's teaching, and of liturgical and research activities.

The initial nucleus of the collection has been constantly increased over the years, in order to respond adequately both to internal teaching requirements and to those of scholars from other institutions who come to the PIMS for their research.

Following the procedures agreed upon with the Italian Bishops' Conference, the library participates in the cooperative network of the National Library Service (Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale-SBN), organized and managed by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. This is the largest cooperative network between Italian libraries of different affiliations, present in over 70 places in Italy; the initials assigned to the PIMS library are RM1699.

The use of the catalogue (more than ten million modern monographs surveyed) to locate the documents takes place on the Internet at www.sbn.it.
