Biography
Maria Grazia Schiavo’s performances have established her as one of the most compelling sopranos of her generation in both Baroque and Bel Canto repertoire. Her signature roles include Violetta in La Traviata conducted by Nello Santi, the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor under Roberto Abbado, Adina in L’Elisir d’amore under Bruno Campanella, and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte conducted by Michele Mariotti. She has also gained acclaim as Donna Anna in Riccardo Muti’s Don Giovanni, the Contessa di Folleville in Il viaggio a Reims, Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Gilda in Rigoletto, and the eponymous heroine in Semiramide at the Zurich Opera House and the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
She was featured in the grand reopening concert of the newly restored Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, conducted by Riccardo Muti, and later toured with him in Il Demofoonte, performing at the Paris Opéra, the Salzburg Festival, and in Ravenna.
Handpicked by Maestro Muti for the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, she subsequently shared the stage with Plácido Domingo for a concert at the Los Angeles Opera. She later made her debut at Teatro alla Scala alongside Domingo himself in Hasse’s Artaserse. Additionally, she has had the honor of singing for both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis at the Nervi Hall.
