Biography 

Michele Manganelli studied at the Conservatories of Siena and Florence, graduating in piano, composition, choral conducting, and orchestral conducting. His training owes much of its influence to the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, where he earned a Licentiate in Gregorian Chant and master's degrees in Organ, Choral Conducting, and Sacred Composition. His teachers included A. Mari, R. Riccardi, A. Pinzauti, G. Baroffio, W. Marzilli, I. Bianchi, G. Parodi, V. Miserachs-Grau, and especially Domenico Bartolucci, with whom he cultivated a special relationship. He has taught at the Conservatories of Siena and Rovigo, and since 2022 has been a Professor at the Florence Conservatory. Since 2008, he has taught Composition at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music. Former Organist and Choirmaster of the Cathedral of Fiesole, he has been Choirmaster of the Florence Cathedral since 2012. He is the director of the AISC Scholae Cantorum Secretariat and a member of the CIMS.

He has conducted over one hundred concerts with various orchestras, including the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Tuscany Regional Orchestra, the Santa Cecilia Conservatory Orchestra, I Solisti Aquilani, the Grosseto City Orchestra, and the Rinaldo Franci City of Siena Orchestra.

Concerts and Recordings (selected)

In addition to his liturgical activity, which includes the musical direction of approximately one hundred Masses per year, he has performed over four hundred concerts at the Cathedral of Florence, including:

  • Series of Organ Concerts at the Cathedral of Saint Mary in Tokyo (2006–2010)

  • Inaugural Concert of the Organ of the Cathedral of Florence with Olivier Latry and the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino – 2017

  • Three concerts with the Solisti Aquilani and Roberto Marini – 2018

  • In the "Musica al Phanteon" series, he conducted the Mass for Peace for soloists, choir, and orchestra by the Maltese composer Joseph Vella – 2023
