In order to enroll as an Ordinary Student one must submit The Matriculation Form. The form must be completed in its entirety, signed by the student and submitted to the Secretariat from July 1 to November 15. The student must also pay the prescribed fees and sign in the Secretariat a personal form, to which must be attached:
- An original copy of the educational certificate that, in the country of origin, allows access to university education and, in case of documents issued by non-Italian institutions, the corresponding certified translation.
- The certificate of Baptism and Confirmation (for lay Catholics).
- The certificate of sound physical fitness.
- Certification of completed musical studies and a curriculum vitae.
- A letter of presentation from one's ecclesiastical Ordinary (for priests), Superior (for religious women and men), and the Ordinary (Bishop or Diocesan Authority) of one's home diocese (for lay people).
- A photocopy of an identification document, to be shown in original when the form is handed in.
- Three passport-size photographs.
Enrolment must be renewed annually using the form Application for Enrolment and Study Plan for Ordinary Students. and handed in at the Registrar's Office by October 30
In compliance with current Italian immigration regulations, the Student who does not hold Italian citizenship must also present:
- A copy of the residence permit, to be shown in original.
- A copy of a valid "student" visa, to be shown in original.
- A declaration of responsibility by an institution or private party that guarantees the payment of the student’s expenses for food, lodging and possible health care; alternatively, the declaration of an institution that has provided a scholarship to follow courses at PIMS.
Lay students coming from non-Schengen countries, in addition to handing in the letter of presentation from the Ordinary of the diocese of origin, must also hand in a declaration of responsibility by an institution or by a private individual, that guarantees the payment of the student’s board, lodging and medical expenses. The aforesaid declaration must be stamped with the “nulla osta” authorisation of the Ordinary of the Italian diocese to which the institution or private individual issuing it, depends; in the case of a declaration of self-maintenance by the student, the endorsement of the Ordinary (bishop or ecclesiastical authority) of the country of origin must be added at the foot of the document.
Students belonging to religions, other than Christian/Catholic, who apply to be admitted to attend PIMS as ordinary students must present the following documents:
- An admission application form to be presented to the Secretariat with an attached letter of presentation signed by the superior or territorial representative of the Christian denomination or non-Christian religion to which they belong.
- A Declaration of responsibility by an institution or private individual that guarantees the costs of the student's expenses in Italy for board, lodging and medical care.
Both the above-mentioned documents must receive the “nulla osta” of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity (in the case of non-Catholic Christians) or the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (in the case of a student not belonging to any Christian denomination). Both the student and the private individual who may take charge of the student must obtain a declaration from a Catholic authority (Bishop or Parish Priest) attesting the knowledge of the applicant and his or her moral rectitude.
- The Clearance from the Dean of PIMS, issued after an interview with the aspiring student.
The ordinary student is obliged:
- Attendance at all the training activities as laid down in the main course regulations for ordinary students.
- Participation in Gregorian Chant celebrations and institutional liturgical celebrations that ordinarily take place on a monthly basis and on the occasion of particular liturgical periods and days.
- Attendance for weekly choral exercises, concerts of the Institute Choir and Academic manifestations.
