On 18 May, presided over by the Rector, Fr Robert Mehlhart OP, an important academic event dedicated to Gregorian chant took place, featuring the defence of three theses.

The proceedings began with the two doctoral theses:

  • Don Tran Van Da presented his thesis on the VIET HOA tones developed from Gregorian chant and their application in the Liturgy of the Hours (Supervisor: Prof. Dr. F. K. Prassl; Co-Supervisor: Prof. M. Manganelli).
  • Fr. Marko Hrgota OFM discussed his thesis on the word “ET” in the Gradual of the Einsiedeln Codex 121, analysing its patristic, liturgical and semiological interpretation (Supervisor: Prof. Dr. F. K. Prassl).

Following this, for the Licentiate:

Fr. Matteo Ferraldeschi OFM presented a new, expanded and revised edition of the Graduale Simplex (Supervisor: Prof. Dr. F. K. Prassl).

Present were the lecturers I. Behrendt, N. Tangari, M. Manganelli and S. Presciuttini (Vice-Rector). The event was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Monsignor Vittorio Viola, Secretary of the Dicastery for Divine Worship.
