The evening of 19 December concluded the Organo Plus series with an intense journey through the refinements of musical rhetoric — from Bach to his contemporaries in the great Baroque repertoire — in a concert entitled Catabasi, anabasi, tristitia e laetitia, which involved the organ, vocal training, Gregorian chant and harpsichord classes of the PIMS.

Organists Luca Chintemi, Davide Barros, Giacomo Balduzzi, and Efisio Aresu performed significant pieces by Bach, Zachow, Pachelbel, Raison, Cabezón, and Cima, while the choir and Gregorian schola — conducted by Don Francesco Deffenu — gave voice to Gregorian chants and chorales in a succession of contemplative and luminous atmospheres.

It was an evening that combined research and spirituality, culminating in a finale of rare depth, a fitting conclusion to the celebrations for the 275th anniversary of J.S. Bach offered by PIMS
